I wanted to set myself apart from the masses, and prove my competence.

Why I Chose Board Certification
I decided that I wanted to become a trial lawyer when I was in the 4th grade. With no lawyers in our family, it was a unique revelation. I put myself through college and law school working as an investigator and clerk in several different law firms, learning the practical ropes.
When I became a member of the bar in 1978, I was surprised at how many lawyers called themselves trial lawyers, and how few of these "trial lawyers" actually knew how to try a case.
When I learned of the NBTA, I knew that I wanted to set myself apart from the masses, and prove my competence. I actually enjoyed filling out the application, showing my experiences, and felt fortunate to successfully take the test.
Since that time, it has been my pleasure and benefit to display my NBTA credentials, and to push others to demonstrate their competence by becoming NBTA certified. In every profession, there is room at the top for those who set their sights to become the best.

Choose a Board Certified Trial Lawyer
All lawyers are not created equal, but all lawyers are free to take any case they want, regardless of whether they've proven themselves.
NBTA board certification provides both consumers and other lawyers looking to refer cases with an objective credential.
It just makes great sense to choose a board certified trial lawyer over a non-certified lawyer.
